The branch of rasayana or rejuvenation is one of the eight specialized branches of Ayurveda, which deals with the maintenance of health and cure of disease, the two main objectives of Ayurveda. Ayurveda emphasizes on enhancement and promotion of energy, covering the entire aspect of individuals with a positive approach for life.

Origin

The ancient Indian Ayurvedic physician Kashyapa said that garlic is born from nectar. It means that it has a rejuvenating property.

It produces sperm and spermatic fluid along with ovum and ovarian hormones. It also nourishes the breasts.

Acharya Vagbhata considered that garlic is the best Vata pacifier and cures all diseases of Vata Dosha. He emphasized that garlic is the best remedy for Vataja disorder.

Rasona/Rasayana acts as a rejuvenator for all types of obstructions except those caused by Pitta Dosha and blood tissue.

Active Chemical Compound(s)

Garlic contains compounds that help the immune system fight against germs.

Allin

Allin a compound in garlic, which converts into allicin after chewed and mixed with saliva. Allicin is anti bacterial and immonomodulator.

Sulfur

Garlic contains high Sulfur in it which increases absorption of zinc when it is used with Lasuna.

Zinc

Zinc is an immunity booster mineral. Due to antioxidants garlic help to fight against infection and support immune system like common cold and flu.

Quercetin

Quercetin and its derivative which has anti-oxidant properties that consequently influence cellular lifespan, survival and viability of human fibroblasts, are present in garlic.

Properties and Impact

Garlic has a property to increase in hepatic total lipids, triglycerides and phospho lipids and decrease in free fatty acids. Thus it has cell protective mechanism on human body.

Regular use of garlic makes a person strong, intelligent, attractive, potent and increases longevity.
